Wednesday Pol Oruvan

Thursday night - beginning of the third long weekend in a row. Sat-Sun being scheduled for a lil' masonry job at home( supervision only ). Fri the only day for some soul satisfying( !! what was that !!) activity. No plans yet. Am I going to feel guilty on Monday morning. TV shows trailers of Unnai Pol Oruvan - bulb lights in the head - 11.00 pm - switch on the PC - run thru' "The Cinema.net" - not a user friendly site ( in fact buggy - am not able to select seats ) - next stop INOX - matinee 3.45 pm -> no seats, noon 1.00 pm -> no seats , morning show 9.00 am -> 12 seats left but pretty much close to the screen . Call wife - who was getting ready to doze off - shows interest - I book .

Fri morning: Wake up at 6 am( a rare event ) - get to Citi Centre just in time - ticket checker at INOX entrance sees print-out ; says, go down to print tickets at the Kiosk - back to Gr. floor - get tickets then up to 3rd floor - security check - just get into the theater as film title comes up.

UPO not bad at all - better than all recently seen & "will see" Tamil films. But "A Wednesday" was better - mainly Naseeruddin Shah who was more subtle than Ulaga Nayagan. NS in no scene gave impression that Kamal did of some pride in threatening the Commissioner ( Mohan Lal ), accented English, and mildly exaggerated performance for the camera through which the actor knows that the audience is watching his "classy" acting.

Also same mistakes in "A Wednesday" repeated. Why plant empty bags around the city at all. The jeeps explodes into flames as the bomb in it goes off - but the reporter  shows no reaction ?

Never mind - good film that stands on its own - no frills, songs, comedians as accessory - they have even pulled off a bold one at the CM and the govt . who are more worried about saving face and upcoming elections .

A must watch.
