The Unseen Pain
This post will take 10 mins of your time but if you can spread the word; it will pave the way to relieve crores from suffering
Having been associated with animal rescue groups for few years ; tried to put down what are the possible ways to improve the distressing situation.
Animals don’t complain. All we have get to hear is the first yelp during a injury and a last howl just few minutes before death. IN between they just retreat to a corner; waiting for a human and humanity.
To make comprehension simple am putting it
in a Q/A form;
1. What are the issues that need addressing
I.
The most important need is awareness among
Citizens.
Everyone needs to know that such a problems exists. Animals through injury and disease suffer the same pain as humans and the govt machinery is grossly inadequate to handle the situation as the numbers are huge.
A rescue of a maggot infested dog below. If left without treatment would be eaten alive. Mostly dogs with injuries around head area are affected as it cannot lick and clean itself
Timely treatment & reporting is important : Quite frequently by the time a sick animal is reported to us it has been suffering for days.
It is easy to give it a few medicines or spray an antibiotic to arrest infection by the time help arrives. Rescue groups numbers can be found on google . Some also have Facebook pages. Have indicated few below.
II. Report Animal Abuse: Cases are increasing year on year. Animals being tied and beaten up by Sadists is on the rise. Please notify rescue groups when you see repeated cruelty. Cruelty can be kicking, burning, stabbing, beating, or it can involve intentional neglect, such as depriving a domestic animal of water, shelter, food.
III. ABC (
Animal birth control ) : Please help initiate ABC in your area
or just your street. Contact rescue groups for your area if you would like to
sterilise . The uncontrolled birth of street animals is the root cause of most
problems. Chennai has probably 100 times more stray animals than the city can
handle. Excess Animals on streets cause accidents, fall sick, spread disease. Also
they cannot be vaccinated effectively. ABC provides huge dividends in the future.
Eg. One single pair of dogs can give birth to 1000 plus dogs in a few years ,
ABC can prevent this. Innocent animals with crushed limbs/bodies have been
witnessed by all of us at some time or the other. Let us save them from pain.
Encourage adoption of Indies: Basically encourage Indian pup adoptions. Discourage imported breeds as the breeding centers are not only cruel to the
mother dogs but also give out sick pups due to continuous inbreeding. Indian dogs
are badly in need of adoption and they are very immune to common health issues too.
They are equally Cute, loving and loyal. Let us be Atmanirbhar. The latest status symbol among the elite and the movie stars is to adopt rescued Indies 😊. Contact rescue groups ; there are many being fostered and available for adoption. IV.
V.
Be a part of the movement: Increase awareness, Join Rescues/
foster/ fund rescues / Spread the word. We can sleep better knowing that a few voiceless
creations of God have escaped pain because of a few minutes spent by us.
Animals don’t complain. All we have get to hear is the first yelp during a injury and a last
howl just few minutes before death. IN between they just retreat to a corner;
waiting for a human and humanity.
2.
Why is the Govt not stepping up
efforts; why should we be involved
a. Animals are not a vote bank ; and hence may be not priority. We are involved because if we don’t ; no one will.
b. Govt has an ABC program but the implementation is inadequate and cruel. Eg. Dogs after surgery are dropped back in random locations. Dogs in the new territory; bite the new entrants and they starve / bleed to death
c. A good deed done comes back to you – it is the Cosmic truth. When you are doing Gods job he undoubtebdly does yours !
3.
Who provides funds for
these activities.
a. Rescue Group members, reporters(of
injured animals) ; contacts; crowd
sourcing have helped till date. Few compassionate Veterinarians give subsidized
rates for rescues and allow some waiting period after treatment until funds are
collected through crowdsourcing.
