The God of Pop leaves. Will now perform for the Gods.
“Bad” Mike died today.
Have rarely felt “sad” . Rarely ; unless it is a very irreplaceable tragedy. Have even wondered why some folks get sad when there is news of death. I thought you just shake it off by getting busy with the next big job on hand. Thought I was "heartless”.
However today when a few tears came out and there is a heaviness in the left part of the rib-cage that refuses to go ; I am looking for a reason for this unexpected reaction of mine.
Guess it is because I owe something to this phenomenon called Michael Jackson. The ecstasy I experience and the psychedelic state to which Mikey has transported me into with some of his creations, is maybe paranormal . I have been able to walk myself out of many a physical weakness and mental depression with these master piece compositions. MJ's stuff is high voltage energy. The videos can probably make a dead man dance. Adrenalin pumping at the maximum works.
This morning when the news of his death came ; I tried the same while driving to office . There was me, his music playing at full volume on my car speakers and the traffic was regular scenery. Anyone could have seen the regular bulging of the boot, as his high bass beats trapped in the car were looking to escape. I wouldn't let them.
Reached office and got a mild consolation by pinning two of his great photographs in the canteen notice boards , so it could stir some personal memories in anyone who knows his music. (I hear MJ is the most photographed person on earth)
As a kid he was the one that brought my attention to “Western” Music when I happened to hear it at a friends place who was very much "into it". I wanted to own all of his stuff ; but without the luxury to buy them on my own , the next option was get them recorded with his Twin Cassette Deck on some of my old Cassettes. But somehow the raw volume was missing in the fast numbers at home.
Then came college, and “liberation” to listen to what you want at whatever volume. However my college mates did not have great speakers too . I continued to follow MJ along with many new additions to my list of "Western" Pop singers. Today I know that “Bad” and most of MJ at anything less than 500 Watts is a waste of time . The only alternative is to listen to it with earphones at full blast.
You do get to hear that MJ had a streak of craziness, but then Einstein had too.
Remember, these are not mere mortals. When the King appears on stage, the crowd shrieks. And when he shrieks during a song, many collapse and need to be taken out of the stadium in stretchers !!
There will be Madonna, Phil Collins, Elvis, Bryan Adams and many more ....and their "nice" creations.
In the world of Pop there will be Michael Jackson ..and there will be everyone else .
Adieu.....Go Bad boy - Rock the hell out of the Gods in heaven. ( until they recover we have you to worship. )
